Handball league winners
7th October 2023
A social handball programme was introduced in Cargin in March this year by Ulster Handball development officer Darragh Daly and following the completion of the 6 week programme an impromptu league was organised. Almost 6 months later and over 100 games played, 8 semi-finalists over 2 divisions were finalised: Aodhan McCaffrey, Barry O'Donnell, Brian Og Devlin, Ciaran O'Boyle, Connor McErlane, Dualtach Johnston, Eamonn McAuley, Jimmy Scullion. The Senior and Intermediate semi finals and finals were played tonight at Cargin club and the captivated crowd were treated to an exhibition of handballing skill throughout!
Congratulations to Jimmy Scullion who defeated Ciaran O'Boyle in the Intermediate Final and Connor McErlane who won against Eamonn McAuley in the senior final winning the inaugural Paddy Devlin Memorial Cup. Club chairman Gerard Laverty was on hand to present the trophies and give a special word of thanks to the handballers for all their efforts. Many thanks to Brian Og Devlin who was the driving force behind the organisation of the league and to the Devlin family for sponsoring the perpetual cup.
Handball practice continues every Thursday from 7:30pm. New members are very welcome!
